The Schooners head on the Steamship Authority Ferry to the Vineyard to face off against the NECBL’s best Sharks on Saturday, June 20.

Mystic had an off day after hosting North Adams in the first-ever NECBL game held at the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Schooners broke a two-game skid, defeating the SteepleCats 12-6. Offensively, the 1-9 in the Schooners lineup contributed to the win. Jamie Zee (Notre Dame) knocked three RBI on three hits. Casey Wensley (Bryant) stole four bases and added a pair of hits and RBI.

Zev Salsberg (Bryant) was tagged with the win, striking out two across two innings, while Liam Chamberlin (Portal) earned his second save of the season.

Martha’s Vineyard rode into Friday’s matchup against the Ocean State Waves looking to secure their ninth straight victory. The Waves took down the Sharks 11-6. Despite the loss, Griffin Cain (Louisville) ripped four RBI with a home run.

The season series between the two teams is tied at 1-1. In their last meeting, the Sharks took an 8-6 win over Mystic. The Sharks knocked 12 hits on the night as the Schooners struggled defensively and were tagged with five errors. Ryan Thompson (URI) had a team-best three RBI on the game.

Heading into the meeting, look for an exciting game on the basepaths. Mystic leads the NECBL with 45 stolen bases. Cam Righi (UConn) leads the league with nine stolen bases across 12 games. Wensley is tied for second with eight.

Dominic Pontbriant (USF) is Mystic’s probable starter. The southpaw has pitched to a 0.79 ERA across three starts. Pontbriant has struck out 12 hitters in 11.1 innings pitched.
