The Schooners host the 10-5 Mainers after three days of not seeing game action. The meeting is the first of the season between the two squads. The Mainers enter the evening as the first seed in the NECBL North Division.
The Schooners are 10-4 on the summer, the second-best record in the NECBL. Mystic is winners of their last two contests.
Sanford lost their last match-up against the Valley Blue Sox, falling 8-2. Nick Zampieron (SBU) hit three of Sanford’s five hits on the day.
The Mainers have offensive firepower, with a team batting average of .254, which is good for third in the NECBL. Zampieron ranks second in the NECBL in batting average with a .435 clip and is first in stolen bases. Troy Carpenter (Maine) has been strong with runners in scoring position, tallying 13 RBI on the year.
Mystic enters the evening on three days of rest due to rainouts. The Schooners won their last two games, most recently defeating the Sharks in an extra-innings thriller. Jack Harley (Stetson) hit the go-ahead RBI single, and the backend of the bullpen, MJ Bollinger (UConn) and Connor Lane (UConn), shut down the Vineyard offense.
Mystic enters the game as one of the best teams in the league in terms of on-base percentage. The Schooners have done damage when they put runners on, swiping 51 bags on the summer.
