The Schooners head on the road to faceoff against the Newport Gulls after taking just their third defeat of the season.
Mystic comes into the game following an 8-6 loss to the Sharks, where the game-winning run stood on first base in the ninth inning.
The Gulls come into the matchup on a four game skid, dating back to when the teams last faced off.
In their last meeting, it was a back-and-forth affair with late game theatrics. Heading into the bottom of the 11th inning, Mystic was down by six runs. The Schooners had a rally in their bones, scoring seven runs without recording an out and walking off the Gulls at home thanks to Joel Collado (URI).
Mystic enters the night two games back of first place with an 8-3 record on the summer, while the Gulls are 5.5 games out.
Newport’s Ryan Novak (Miami U) is a player to look out for, he leads the NECBL in home runs this season with three.
For Mystic, defense will play a big role. Mystic has committed the most errors of any team in the league so far this summer. The game on the basepaths is also something to look out for. Mystic tallied five stolen bases in the loss to Vineyard, four of them coming from Cam Righi (UConn).
The Schooners’ probable starter is the California native Ashton Arroyo (Georgetown). The start will be the first of his collegiate career. This summer, Arroyo has not allowed a run across his six innings of work and has struck out two.
First pitch from Cardines Field is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
