Cam Righi has been playing baseball for as long as he can remember, growing up in a baseball household. Righi’s love for baseball started with his father, who was his greatest inspiration in the game growing up.
“He worked with me all throughout my career,” Righi said. “He still works with me even today. He drives up and works with me wherever I’m at.”
In high school, Righi was a multi-sport athlete at Wethersfield High School in Connecticut, playing football and baseball. Righi earned the 2025 Connecticut High School Gatorade Player of the Year following his senior baseball season.
Playing two sports in high school, Righi loved the rush of the game of baseball, making him choose to continue playing at the college level.
“The reason I chose baseball is because I can do that every day,” Righi said. “There’s something about baseball: you’re always chasing perfection; you can never get to a point where there’s no room for improvement.”
Righi comes to Mystic following his rookie season at UConn, where he was named Baseball America Second Team Freshman All-American and BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. Righi had a spectacular rookie season, hitting .326 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI.
“It feels great,” said Righi on his first season. “I’m really excited to have another chance to compete to get to Omaha. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
This summer with the Schooners, Righi leads the team through the first half of the season in stolen bases with 13.
Righi is a versatile utility player, having experience as both a catcher and an outfielder. This past season, Righi got several reps in the outfield, a new look for him as he primarily played catcher growing up.
“I had to learn how to play outfield for this year, but it was a good change of pace,” Righi said. “I’m excited to get back to catching this summer and hopefully this fall and next spring.”
Righi sees this summer as a tool to get better and has hopes to make a postseason run.
“I want to just be competing, getting better every single day,” Righi said. “The coaches are doing a great job at working with me and helping me grow. I’d love to get to the playoffs and win one; that would be a lot of fun.”
