Baseball is in Bryce Detwiler’s blood. Detwiler’s love for the game stemmed from his father, who played professionally.

“I just really looked up to him because he has already been through the game, so he knows the ins and outs of baseball,” Detwiler said. “It was just easier to pick up things from him.”

Growing up and throughout high school, Detwiler was a multi-sport athlete, playing basketball and football alongside baseball, but Detwiler always knew that he’d continue down the path of playing baseball.

“I always dedicated my time to baseball. I always knew it was baseball.”

After a stellar high school career, hitting .531 as a senior at Governor Mifflin High School in Pennsylvania, Detwiler committed to UConn.

Between his first season at the collegiate level and his senior year of high school, Detwiler made a stop in the Future’s League with the Norwich Sea Unicorns. In his first taste of college ball, Detwiler hit .283 with nine RBI across 22 games.

Detwiler carried the success with the Sea Unicorns into his first season with the Huskies, where he hit .268 in 20 games played.

“I definitely learned a lot and learned the adjustments that I need to make for next year to come out and win championships,” Detwiler said.

Detwiler looked to keep growing at the collegiate level, which landed him with the Schooners this summer.

“It was good to play in the Future’s League and get that college baseball exposure from their league. I wanted to play for Mystic because I heard the competition was great here, and the coaching, it’s so fun to play under [Phil] Orbe.”

Detwiler has been a staple of the Schooners lineup, playing in 14 of Mystic’s first 16 matchups. The rising sophomore opened his Schooners campaign with a home run during the first game of the season, making a splash instantly at the Shipyard.

Mystic is home to several huskies this summer. Detwiler has the opportunity to stick alongside them, looking to grow alongside his college teammates with the Schooners.

Detwiler is excited to see how the summer unfolds and sees it as an opportunity to learn with some of the best.

“My goals this summer are to compete at a high level and just be the best man I can.”
